+ I have created 12 successful kickstarter projects before this one, and the initial Eros Tarot was by far my most successful. This simple idea began with one card- The Tower. I knew it as a position in the Kama Sutra before I knew it as a tarot card, so when I made that connection my imagination ran wild. So if the original deck was so successful, why am I not printing it exactly as I did the first time? To be honest, it’s because of the Chinese government. My initial production partner got in trouble with the government for printing sexually explicit material. I had to pay a huge unexpected chunk of money to get an American logistics company to pick up the decks and deliver it to me since no Chinese forwarder would touch them. And now, since no one in China will print it for me, I saw this as an opportunity to reinvent the deck as it gets made Stateside. It’s been a year and a half since the first edition, and in that time I’ve gotten better at graphic design. I’ve gone with cleaner lines and used the same font in the card text that I used to make the logo. I’ve also removed the borders on the cards to reveal the unfinished areas around the edges of the art. I’ve cleaned up the design of the card backs and text to enhance the sense of velvet and gold. This change is made more dramatic by the fact that these new cards are 33% bigger than the previous ones. The first run was 70mm x 120mm, while this edition comes in a glorious 90mm x 140mm. The paper has also improved to an Uncoated Linen 130# cover. Lastly, the manual will also be improving. The first edition came with a one page flyer for reference on the card’s meanings, but this time we’re diving deeper. I’ve paired up with a wonderful writer, Gail Clendenin, to flesh this out into a more substantial manual. While it’s currently in development, I’m expecting it to come in around 40 pages.
