+ You didn't have to be around to experience the wonder of classic video games to fall in love with pixel art. Prevalent from the '70s to the 90's due to the low-powered machines back then, pixel art is a form of digital art where images are dealt with on the pixel level. The aesthetics for this kind of somewhat rough but definitely captivating graphics, which mimic many traits found in 8-bit and 16-bit computers and consoles, is believed to have originated from iconic arcade video games like Space Invaders and Pac-Man. Limited colors and resolution are used to prevent game developers from expressing complex visuals efficiently, but as advanced computer graphics technologies indulge us with high-resolution, eye-popping video games, some of us start to reminisce the beauty of pixels. This deck pays tribute to the golden age of pixelated video games and may evoke some nostalgic feelings. By combining tarot and pixel art, we want to rejuvenate both traditions, to show that they are not just retro revivals but the now and the future. Pixel Tarot is a recreation of the worldwide popular Rider-Waite-Smith (RWS) deck. The images are simple but feature abundant symbolism. There are 22 Major Arcana cards including 21 numbered ones and the Fool. Generally speaking, they represent spiritual influences, life lessons, karmic energies – the big archetypal themes influencing our life journeys. Their meanings are deep and complex in beautiful ways. The 56 Minor Arcana cards reflect what we experience daily. They offer insights into how current situations affect an individual and what steps need to be taken to achieve their goals.
