+ Despite leaving formal gemology and the jewelry industry, I felt a lingering need to involve stones into my life. They had so many stories to share. It took me a long time, then many drawings of crystals- paired with plants and animals- before at last they voiced a clear purpose. That message, that story, was that of the runes. Runes had, after all, been made for stones; their sharp, primal lines ideal for carving. They also bring to mind simple designs made of twigs, thus forming a language inextricably tied to the earth, the soil and everything growing within it; fully grounded. This grounding, this earthly quality, is the meaning of 'tellus' and the Telluric Runes: A link and mirroring between what grows vibrantly above and silently below ground, of outward and inward forces. Stones were Earth's first growth; crystals the first flora, manifesting the elements' order and colours, a gift from- and reminder of- the universe's most primordial will.
