+ A prism bends white light into a full spectrum of colors. In a similar fashion, looking through the prism of the tarot can help us see the true colors and many facets within ourselves. That is the core concept this deck seeks to explore. My goal in illustrating this deck was to create a gentle, dreamlike vision of the universe that would promote a sense of comfort and ease. It is not meant to sugar coat things, but to be a guiding light for navigating the darker aspects of the subconscious and confronting difficult truths. It is not a reflection of the world as I see it, but the world I want to see. On a more personal level, it is the deck I’ve always needed to help confront my personal mental health struggles. Though the images are primarily composed of light and color, I wanted to be faithful to the energy of the cards and honor the duality of light and dark in my own way. My hope is that they will promote healthy self-reflection and meditation and be a guiding light for others who need one. The illustrations are inspired by a mix of RWS imagery and Hermetic symbolism. I closely studied both the correspondences to the Tree of Life and the astrological significance of each card. The figures in the cards are multifaceted and gemlike. They are not quite human but human enough that we can see ourselves reflected in their form. It was very important to me that they be gender-neutral and faceless so that the reader can connect with each card more completely. The deck itself is also multifaceted. It can be a tool for divination, self-reflection, or meditation. It can even be used to play a game! The game I designed around the deck is called Dominion and the rules of play will be included in the digital guidebook (or physical if we reach that goal). The Prism Tarot consists of the traditional 78 cards plus two bonus cards, The Prism and The Void which are meant to add to the unique theme and experience of the deck. You may choose to use them or not. They will be standard Tarot size 2.75" x 4.75".
